The ASB planning board is entirely student run. Each board member occupies a specific position, but all positions work together to create the best possible ASB experience.
Board members are responsible for choosing trip locations, making all travel arrangements, and recruiting participants. They also play major roles in the pre-break aspect of ASB by offering trip participants guidance and support through their fundraising and volunteer efforts.
If you have any questions about ASB, please do not hesitate to contact us. We can be reached by our contact information below, at illinoisasb@illinoisasb.org, or in our office in the YMCA.

Hello friends! I'm Leslie and I'm overjoyed at being a part of ASB for another year! Alternative Spring Break has given me so many opportunities, has changed my outlook on life and introduced me to the many fantastic people I am blessed to call my friends. I'm double majoring in Anthropology with a focus in Archaeology (I love playing in the dirt) and in Gender and Women's Studies. When I'm not studying or volunteering with ASB, I can be found daydreaming, dancing, competing in video games, journaling or playing with my friends. I also usually have my clunky camera hanging around my neck, so make sure to be ready to smile!

I also love the colour GREEN, traveling, trying new food, playing badminton, people with british/aussie accents, following uber talented YouTube artists, drawing poop everywhere, and hanging out with awesome people! Some things I greatly enjoy in life include baking, eating ice cream, playing Geometry Wars, skipping rocks, playing tennis, being outside, going to concerts, listening to music, watching sunsets, kitty cats... just to name a few. I LOVE ASB because it enlightens students of real issues in society and takes them to a new state, broadening their cultural experiences. I can't wait to contribute to the team and go on more trips!!

O-V-E with A-S-B and super psyched to be one of your two External Relations chairs this year! If you love helping others as much as I do, then you made the right choice with ASB. In case you were wondering, I am a huge gLeek, I love puppies, and I am constantly quoting movies. My favorite food is salad, I plan on marrying Leonardo DiCaprio, and I cry in hallmark commercials.

I went on my first ASB trip during the spring semester of my junior year and it was one of the best experiences of my life! It is amazing to see how regular college students can make such a huge impact through ASB trips :) In my free time, I like to hip-hop dance, play guitar, travel, and get into crazy situations :)

Hey everyone! My name is Ron, and I am the Internal Development chair for this year. I am a senior majoring in Molecular and Cellular Biology. I went on my first ASB trip my sophomore year, and since then I have always made sure I had time to go on a trip! Some of my favorite memories in college at the University of Illinois have been through ASB. Through ASB, I have learned more about myself, developed great friendships, and began to experience what the world has to offer. Outside of ASB, I am a personal assistant at Beckwith/Nugent Hall and part time official at Campus Recreation. I am a huge Chicago sports fan... Bulls, Cubs, Bears, and Blackhawks! You can always find me jammin to some tunes on campus... Kanye, Ne-Yo, and even some Taylor Swift to keep life bumpin! Get excited and be a part of the ride, because ASB will be on a mission to take it to a whole new level this year!

Salutations! I'm Dan, and I'm the multimedia chair for ASB. I am currently a junior switching into Natural Resources and Environmental Science. When I'm not playing tennis, doing yoga, taking pictures, drinking tea, decimating homework, or at class, I'm enriching myself at ASB! The friendships and knowledge gained from the trips I have gone on since winter 2009 have really been unparalleled. So I hope you decide to join us for some great times and memories! Smiley face.

Hi! My name is Simi and I'm one of the organizational fundraising chairs this year. I'm a junior in Kinesiology, hoping to become a physical therapist. I love being involved in organizations that actually help people and make a difference in their lives, and that is basically what ASB is all about. If you have any reservations about ASB... don't, it's awesome :)

Hey! I'm Anna and I'm a sophomore Psychology major. This is my first year on ASB board and I'm super excited to be a Site Development chair! My very first ASB trip was over Spring Break 2011 and I can't wait to plan awesome trips for people, and of course participate in more trips myself. Other things I like to do include improv comedy, eating weird food, and going on adventures. I look forward to meeting lots of new people this year through ASB -- maybe I will meet YOU!

Hello!! I am a senior in Community Health, and very excited to be 1/3 of Site Development. First thing to know about me is that I am an ASB junkie and it has to be the best decision I made in college. I love everything this organization represents, but most importantly, I love service in general. I have a huge passion to learn and every trip that I have gone on has been an amazing eye opening experience. The people and the friends you will make on your trips will help change your life and help you understand different social justice issues. I hope that by going on these trips you will come to love ASB as much as I do! So do not hesitate to ask me any questions because I love to share my experiences and chat about ASB non-stop. Outside of ASB though, you will most likely find me running around with my friends, reading a book, or staring at puppies.

So let me know if you have any awesome trip ideas. =] I went on my first ASB trip to Crotched Mountain \/^ the summer after my freshman year and fell in love with ASB! I am a junior majoring in social work and hope to receive my FSW aka masters in forensic social work for those unfamiliar with prison lingo. I love making new friends so if you enjoy lazy afternoons listening to the sultry voice of Jason Mraz and getting lost in a good book like I do, let's chat. =]

Hello, my name is Lizzie, and I'll be this year's student advisor! The summer after my freshman year, I went on a trip to West Virginia, and I've been hooked on ASB ever since! I love all things French and my favorite activities include reading children's books and simply chilling with my peeps. Currently, I am majoring in Elementary Education, and I'm looking forward to student teaching in the Spring :)

HEY! My name is Jian and I am your ASB Treasurer! I am a graduate student in Accounting, so I will be spending my last year here on campus with the amazing ASBers! I like sneaking naps here and there, so don't be surprised if you see me sleeping on a couch somewhere. I went on my first ASB trip during the spring break of my junior year and I have been in love with ASB ever since, and only wish that I got involved sooner! I have met so many awesome folks through ASB and learned so much from them. Aside from that, every trip has been full of fun and laughter and love. And sweet music on the road. Oh and I LOVE eggplants and tofu--but I am not a vegetarian.

Hey, I'm Paul Miszczyszyn one of the Trip Facilitator Trainers this year. You should apply for the awesome leadership role as Trip Facilitator because then we get to hang out at TF trainings and have a blast together! I am a senior studying Molecular and Cellular Biology along with Psychology. I love being outdoors, swimming, running, and snowboarding. I think ASB trips are amazing, and they are something everyone needs to experience in their college career. ASB is the bomb.com! :D

Hello! I'm Suzanne Pearson, a Trip Facilitator Trainer for ASB this 2011-2012 school year. If you ever need me, I am horrible at answering my phone but, you can probably find me playing outside, or in Espresso Royale drinking coffee and reading. You'll be able to identify me by my short curly hair, smooth dance moves, non-stop singing and loud-semi-obnoxious laugh. As far as schooling goes, I am a senior studying Psychology, as well as, Earth Systems, the Environment, & Society. I believe that ASB is one of the best things the University of Illinois has to offer, and everybody should go on an ASB trip - the more the merrier! AND if you really want to go the extra mile, you should be an ASB Trip Facilitator - you'll get to play with Paul, Sarah, and me weekly (for about 5 weeks)!
