Planning Board

The ASB planning board is entirely student run. Each board member occupies a specific position, but all positions work together to create the best possible ASB experience.

Board members are responsible for choosing trip locations, making all travel arrangements, and recruiting participants. They also play major roles in the pre-break aspect of ASB by offering trip participants guidance and support through their fundraising and volunteer efforts.

If you have any questions about ASB, please do not hesitate to contact us. We can be reached by our contact information below, at illinoisasb@illinoisasb.org, or in our office in the YMCA.

Board members will be available in the ASB Office (basement of the YMCA) during the weekdays between 2-4pm Monday through Friday.

Co-Directors

Hi, I'm David Spearman! I am a senior serving my second year on ASB Board after being an Organizational Fundraising chair last year. I'm an economics and sociology major, and a music minor. Outside from my work on ASB board I perform in the IUB Musicals.

Hi! I'm Kari and I am one of the co-directors for this upcoming year! I am a senior majoring in Special Education and have been involved in Alternative Spring Break for the past three years. I can't wait to be a part of this amazing organization for another year! Along with ASB, I love naps, cooking, music and spending time with my friends and family.
Educational Outreach

I found out about ASB mid-way through my first semester at this university. After the info night I attended that November, I know for a fact that I have never been the same. There is not a day that goes by that I do not stop and think about how alive I feel from the experiences that ASB have given me, and to have a chance to be around such beautiful people on a daily basis.

Martha Webber is a graduate student in Writing Studies and likely the oldest U of I ASB board member in history. After graduating, she hopes to return to California to teach composition and the valuable human connections we make through service learning.
External Relations

Hi! I'm Tracy, one of three External Outreach chairs on ASB board this year. I discovered ASB during first semester of my freshman year and I've been involved ever since! I'm so excited about this year with ASB and I can't wait to spend my last year of college with some of my favorite ASBers!

To quote a favorite song: "Blessed is this life, and I'm gonna celebrate being alive." - Brett Dennen

Hey! It's Becky Long, and I'm one of three site facilitator trainers. I had a lot of trouble finding an organization on campus that fit me, until I finally found a home with ASB. I love helping people and making new friends. I am looking forward to a year full of service and fun.

Hey everyone! I'm Talia Oakley and I am one of three site-facilitator trainers. I mean it when I say ASB is the best organization on campus, but I'm probably a little biased :) When I'm not doing ASB, I like spending time with friends and family, singing, reading, and playing games of any kind. You might catch me at Chipotle on a regular basis (they really should offer punch cards there). I'm excited to spend my senior year surrounded by great service and amazing people!
